Yesterday was World IPv6 day and a few companies and ISPs made the big move to IPv6.

The reason IPv6 is being adopted is because of the problem of IP address shortage.

The IPv6 standard can support some 340000000000000000000000000000000000000 IP addresses, which means that you can have these many devices connected to the web with a unique IP address for each one.

Major sites, such as Time Warner, AT&T, D-Link, Google, Cisco, Facebook, Bing and Yahoo! were participating in the transition. However, many other popular mainstream sites didn’t make the move as well. They’re likely to make the move slowly, as time goes by. As of now, all the services that moved to IPv6 will still be accessible via connections using IPv4.

A team within Google[x] group started Project Glass to build this kind of technology, one that helps you explore and share your world, putting you back in the moment.

Google's overhauling its search engine, at least in the US for now, with a new Knowledge Graph feature. The idea is that you won't have to leave Google to get the information you're looking for – if you type in the name of a celebrity, landmark, film or work of art into Google, a panel will appear on the right hand side of your results with relevant info, images and links.

Aiming to act a bit more like Wolfram Alpha (and perhaps become the service Ask Jeeves always dreamed of), the Knowledge Graph already contains 500m objects and 3.5 billion facts, making us wonder how many facts there are on the World Wide Web in total.

With the information coming from public sources including Wikpedia, we'd also say that the Knowledge Graph might be a good overview of a subject with interesting links but we wouldn't rely on it for now.

As we said, this new search feature is kicking off in America but we're sure the big G will see fit to extend the fun to the rest of the world before long.

Motorola's not yet spilling many details, but the telecommunications company has something big planned for September 10th. What's more, unless the company's representatives have just developed a love of little robots, the announcement is related to Google's Android operating system.

You can see the invitation that Motorola's been sending around - complete with Android figure - below for yourself. All we've removed from the image is one email address for the sake of saving somebody from spam.

It's possible to make a few guesses about the meaning of the invite in the absence of concrete info, though. A short setup: late last year, Motorola's co-CEO commited giving up on at least four software platforms in order to focus on Android and two others. And at the moment, Motorola doesn't have any Android devices on the market.
