Xolo X900

Chipset - Intel Atom Processor Z2460
CPU  - 1.6 GHz Intel® Atom™ with Hyper Threading

The Xolo X900 sports both a front (1.3MP) and rear (8MP) camera, an LED flash, a dedicated camera button, and micro USB / micro HDMI ports. The rear camera is capable of recording in 1080p and supports 1080p H.264 Main Profile playback at 30 fps. The phone’s specs are solid all the way around; easily on par with other shipping Android products.

One of the things I like most about the Xolo is its rubberized back. The oleophobic coating on the iPhone 4/4S may keep nasty grease from building up, but it makes the phone notoriously difficult to hold. The Xolo has an oleophobic coating on the front half (where it matters), and a no-nonsense surface on the back.

Panasonic and NHK have taken the wraps off a monster 145in 8K plasma TV – the world's first self-illuminating Super Hi-Vision TV. That means a resolution of 7680x4320 – and at 145in it blows Sharp's 85-incher out of the water.

Panny and NHK have been able to create a plasma that size by developing a new vertical-scanning drive method for the display to ensure a stable image. Check out the full technical explanation here.

Unfortunately there's not much to watch on it just yet. The BBC will be screening some of the Olympics in 8K, though it's unlikely that the prototype will be making its way over to our shores anytime soon.

The built-in quad band makes John’s Phone suitable for the world’s four main network frequencies(2G / GSM 850-900-1800-1900 Mhz). This means you can make and receive calls all over the world, except on the pure 3G or CDMA networks.

John’s Phone has an integrated antenna for optimal performance.

John’s Phone has a single ringtone with three volume settings: loud, normal and silent. You can adjust the volume using the button on the left side of your Phone. The vibrate function works for all settings.

The back of each John’s Phone features a flap with an address book behind it. The left of the flap contains an opening with a small pen: these two unique accessories allow you to update your address file at any time, even when your phone is switched off.

The top of John’s Phone features a small screen that displays inbound and outbound calls.

The talk time of John's Phone is about 6 hours and the stand by time is over 3 weeks.

You can lock the keys by moving the on/off switch on lock.

John’s phone is energy-efficient (1200 mAh), as it does not contain any energy-consuming features. The standby time is more than three weeks. If the battery is full, the right side of the screen features the word ‘JOHNS’. The lower the battery, the fewer letters will be displayed. If your battery is empty, the Phone first shows a ‘J’, followed by ‘LOW’. The battery is an integrated Lithium-ion battery.

You can charge John’s Phone either by plugging the (EU) adapter into an electrical outlet or by plugging the USB cable into your PC or laptop. The adapter and USB cable with a micro-USB connection are included with your John's Phone. John’s Phone is half-charged on delivery. It is recommended that you charge the Phone completely before using it for the first time (the word ‘JOHNS’ in the display should be fully visible). When charging please use John's own charger and/or charger cable. To charge John's to full takes about 3 hours after which it is recommendable to disconnect John's from the charger/charger cable.

You can save 10 speed-dial numbers to your John’s Phone: one under each number key. For more information, please read the instructions in the quick manual.

A set of earphones is provided with each separate John’s Phone – these allow you to call hands-free while driving.

John’s Phone is 10.5 centimetres in height, 6 centimetres in length and 1.5 centimetres in width (4.1”/2.4”/0.6”). Weight: 95 grams.

John’s Phone is manufactured from a high-quality plastic, making it resilient and water-resistant.

Samsung likes having 'the world’s first' attached to their products and this time around it is no different. The brand's recently taken the wraps off their new slim external DVD writer, the SE-218BB optical disc drive (ODD) that sets the industry standard for ultra portable drives. Commenting on the announcement of the product, Samsung states, “With its ultra small footprint, consumers will appreciate the SE-218BB sleek drive as an ideal companion for ultrabook users that quickly connects and is USB powered to access content wherever they are”

The SE-218BB is built to accompany a new generation of ultrabook and slim laptop designs, featuring a compact size that is 18% thinner than conventional DVD writers and is the world’s thinnest external optical disc drive with a height of 14mm. The drive is 8% lighter than Samsung’s conventional DVD writer and built to accommodate the mobile lifestyle we live in.

Sleek, portable and stylish

Maverick Choi, ODD senior manager, Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. said, “With its ultra small footprint, consumers will appreciate the SE-218BB sleek drive as an ideal companion for ultrabook users that quickly connects and is USB powered to access content wherever they are. Through its AV connectivity mode, the drive is also ideal for Tablet PC users that want to view or hear content from a disc.”

The brand claims that by using Smart Power technology, the SE-218BB connects through its single USB port to power the drive and provide AV connectivity to PCs and notebook computers. For tablet PCs with a built-in USB port and supporting Android Honeycomb OS 3.1 or above, the SE-218BB allows users on-the-go to watch DVD content on their tablets.

The brand claims that the SE-218BB DVD writer is engineered to be compatible with all major operating systems, including Win7 and Mac OS. Featuring Buffer Under Run technology, the drive works to prevent errors that result from writing speeds that can exceed data transfer speeds, while also enabling PC multi-tasking. Additionally, the SE-218BB DVD writer is an eco-friendly product, manufactured with lead-free soldering technology that eliminates harmful materials such as Pb, cd, cr+6, Hg, PBBs and PBDE.

The external DVD drive is capable of reading and writing files at a variety of speeds across different data media types including: 24X CD-ROM, 24X CD-RW, 8X DVD±R recording, 5X DVD-RAM recording, 6X DVD+R Dual Layer recording, 6X DVD-R Dual Layer recording, 8X DVD+RW recording and 6X DVD-RW recording.

There’s a wide selection of catch-up and gratis streaming services, including BBC iPlayer, YouTube, Netflix, Dailymotion and Fetch TV, not to mention a variety of European news feeds.

You can also step through to a dedicated apps store for extra diversions, including some decent causal games. The set will also Skype, with the help of an optional Skype-cam.

The TV boasts excellent multimedia file playback, both from USB thumbdrive, SD card and across a network. All of our test files played, including MKV and FLAC, with MP3s benefiting from a graphical flourish when album art was available. The TV will also timeshift programmes to an external HDD, direct from the EPG, a handy supplement to regular PVRing.

DataWind, a leading provider of wireless web access products and services, today launched the much awaited Ubislate series of tablets. Providing smartphone communication, internet access, tablet computing and multimedia entertainment, the devices also pack a powerful combination of content and applications. Intended to help bridge the digital divide, DataWind’s new products break the affordability barriers of computers and bandwidth constraints of wireless networks to deliver internet access to anybody that can afford a simple mobile phone. The UbiSlate tablets are the only devices in the market to offer DataWind’s UbiSurfer browser, based on 18 international patents, that can deliver internet access on traditional GPRS networks which cover the far reaches of the globe. In India the devices will offer unlimited web-browsing using DataWind’s web delivery platform for under Rs.100 per month on traditional mobile networks. The UbiSlate 7+ and UbiSlate 7C models were introduced at respective MRPs of 2,999 and 3,999. If you’ve pre-booked your Ubislate then your tablet is on its way to you. For the rest of us who weren’t pro-active, we’ll have to wait till the end of May to get our hands on a retail piece.

Differentiated by a resistive screen on the UbiSlate 7+ to the four-point multi-touch capacitive screen on the UbiSlate 7C, both models come with embedded GPRS modems in addition to Wi-Fi connectivity allowing ubiquitous internet access. The 7” screen tablets support the Android 2.3 operating system that delivers a rich touch-screen graphical user interface which significantly reduces the learning curve for new computer users in joining the world-wide web. The tablets are powered by an 800Mh Cortex-A8 processor which allows smooth usability of a broad range of applications. The embedded HD video co-processor delivers high quality video content making it a perfect multimedia device. DataWind CEO, Suneet Singh Tuli said, “Over the last year, I’ve been travelling the globe, talking at the World Bank, with heads of state, at numerous universities and at global conferences, evangelizing the power of the internet to transform people’s lives. We’ve now created a product that removes the barriers and levels the playing field.”

DataWind also unveiled its ecosystem of partners for providing content, applications and access, making it the industry’s largest collaborative effort to deliver consumers a complete turnkey offering in a single unit. DataWind announced relationships with Aircel for voice and data services, VMC Systems Ltd, Yahoo! India, The Indian Express Group, Reverie Language Technologies Pvt. Ltd, Get Jar, InMobi, Mango Learning solutions, RKS Learning Private Ltd, Intelligia, Pixatel, Poketalk, MyJobs and Blueworld.

Japan-based provider of PC accessories and digital audio and video devices Elecom is rolling out a combination Bluetooth keyboard and mobile handset, Electronista reports. The TK-MBD041 is aimed primarily at tablet users who want to have VoIP communications.

The devices measures 0.5 inches by 2 inches. The display, which splits in half, shows who's calling, and a button activates a speakerphone. The device also includes a headphone jack for private listening.
“I see this gadget, made by Elecom, as best paired with a tablet; especially one that’s in a dock or a stand-up case,” Kevin C. Tofel, writing for GigaOM, said. “I wouldn’t want to type a novel on the keyboard, but it offer some handy two-thumbed typing for some short text bursts, emails and such. And for those that want an old-school handset in lieu of headphones and a microphone, this does the trick. I particularly like the small display that shows caller ID information.”

The keyboard will be sold only in Japan and will retail for 18,690 yen or around $230 U.S.
“Are there better solutions for these activities out there? Sure, but you have to love some of the crazy gadgetry that comes out of the Asia region,” Tofel said.

Elecom has also made their Schedule St. personal organizer app for Android (News - Alert) phones available worldwide in an English version in addition to its already popular Japanese version.
The app features to-do lists, text messaging and picture messaging. It syncs with Google (News  - Alert) Calendar and can use design “refills,” which sell for 200 yen ($2.47).

In related Bluetooth news, VTech has announced some new handsets which aim to offer many of the same functions of landline phones. One of their phones, the LS6195, is inspired by the land-line phone designs of the 20th century. They've also rolled out some ultra-modern phones, all of which feature wireless handsets and can connect to cell phones.

This pioneering new look handset is the latest creation from blackberry. Something completely new and different is difficult to achieve in the new handset market whilst remaining functional, but it looks like Blackberry may have hit the right note with this beautiful newly designed smart-phone.

Intel launched its highly-anticipated 22-nanometer Ivy Bridge processors today. However, while the initial launch of quad-core processors in the Core i5 and Core i7 families for desktop and full-sized laptops will start immediately, dual-core chips and low-power chips for thin, ultrabook-style computers won't be available until later this spring, the company revealed. Ivy Bridge marks the shift from 32-nanometer to 22-nanometer transistor technology, with the smaller size bringing enhanced efficiency and more computational power — "about 20 percent more processor performance using 20 percent less average power," Intel's PC business chief Kirk Skaugen told the BBC. The new chips also feature "3D" Tri-Gate transistors that add vertical silicon fins to reduce energy leakage. While the launch of Intel's new processors has seen some delays related to the new 22-nanometer manufacturing process, the company is hoping to make more of the chips available right at launch, with 50 percent more units available in the first six months after launch than with last year's rollout of the Sandy Bridge architecture.

HTC has announced a new smartphone for Japan which will come packed with WiMAX. The HTC J will be available via the KDDI network in the country and it pretty much has the same specs as the HTC One S.

The smartphone runs on the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sanswich OS. Weighing at 142 grams, the smartphone also has a decent battery backup thanks to the 1810mAh battery. Colour options include black, red and white.

The HTC J will come bundled with a pair of UrBeats headphones and KDDI is even offering a promotion where 500 customers will get a pair of HTC Solo headphones as well.

The ultra-compact footprint of Renault Twizy (length: 2,338 millimeters / width: 1,237 millimeters / height: 1,454 millimeters) is ideally suited to city motoring. It will go on sale in Europe early 2012 with a price tag beginning at €6,990 inclusive of taxes, depending on the fiscal measures available in each country.

Like for other Z.E. vehicles, Renault Twizy customers will lease the battery. The monthly subscription starts at €45 inclusive of taxes for an annual distance travelled of 7,500km, a figure which covers the vast majority of ordinary motorists' requirements.

Renault Twizy's running costs – insurance, maintenance and energy (battery lease and electricity for recharging) – are just as modest, working out at 15 percent lower than those of a three-wheeled scooter.

7. Lag-free action

With a 240Hz refresh rate, the 3D telly should deliver smooth, lag-free PS3 gameplay and blur-free images when you are watching the telly.

10. Money talks

Despite the pretty impressive specs on board, the PlayStation 3D monitor is one of the cheapest routes into 3D viewing to date.

A new web-based graphic novel has brought together some of the film and comic industry's top talent to push the boundaries of what's possible when developing with, and using, HTML5-based web browsers.

The Random Adventures of Brandon Generator, commissioned by Microsoft to push the benefits of Internet Explorer 9, is part animated graphic novel and part interactive game.

The four-episode story is being written by Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz director Edgar Wright and illustrated by Tommy Lee Evans, an artist for Marvel and LucasFilm. It is narrated by one half of The Might Boosh, Julian Barratt.

Brandon Generator has been created entirely using Java Script meaning it should work on most devices with no plug-ins required.

The story arc has already been decided, but the team is encouraging viewers/readers/players to help shape the story by submitting prose, drawing creatures or leaving voice messages that can help Brandon along the way. User contributions will 'flesh out the details' of the story.

Accessing the adventure through Internet Explorer 9 will enable exclusive features through its Pinning and Jump Lists functionality.

To check out the first episode and begin contributing to the story, head to BrandonGenerator.com.

Max Payne 3, and indeed, the entire Max Payne franchise, is famous for a feature that sets it apart from the Modern Warfare's and Battlefields of this world: bullet-time. This is the only series of games that allows players to tap a button, and have the character they’re controlling enter a slow-motion bullet-ballet.

When this happens, shell-casings waft breezily across the screen, victims recoil with muffled screams and gun-blasts flower like fireworks. It looks utterly awesome in single-player, but how can this mechanic work in an online firefight?

Can you put the genie back in the bottle?

For a long time, Google co-founder Sergey Brin thought that you couldn’t. He thought that the internet was a force that had been unleashed upon the world, and no authority could ever put an effective control on it. But now, he says, he’s not so sure.

In interviews with The Guardian,Brin talks about how he thinks that the free internet is about to go through a dangerous gauntlet that might have the potential to break the world wide web as we have come to know it.

Brin points to three major factors that could start restricting the internet – state actors like China, Hollywood and it’s anti-piracy efforts, and companies like Facebook and Apple that put themselves in between users and the information on the internet.

We’re coming to a real fork in the road. SOPA, PIPA, CISPA – it seems like legislation to change the equation of information on the internet isn’t going to stop coming, and neither supporters or detractors are willing to budge an inch on some of the most basic philosophical questions at stake. Megaupload won’t be the last site to come under the fist of government intervention, and groups like Anonymous is only be getting started in their opposition to those same forces.

HTC Golf images leak ahead of handset's expected release

Seemingly set to sport a rounded edged form factor similar to that of a scaled down HTC Sensation, the far from confirmed Golf has seen its expected specs slashed across the web with a 1GHz single-core processor tipped to feature alongside 512MB of RAM.

Thanks to its ICS innards the Golf, if released, will feature version 4.0 of the Taiwanese manufacturer’s much loved HTC Sense UI with the slightly restrictive 4GB of internal storage bolstered by the availability of 25GB worth of free DropBox cloud storage.
